Ceramic is a product medium made from slip which is about the consistency of mud. It is poured into a mold and left to harden slightly. It is then removed from the mold and fired at a high temperature in a kiln. After the product is fired it is coated with a glaze and kiln fired again. The firing process hardens the glaze to a glass-like finish. After these processes are completed the decals (pictures) are applied to the surface and kiln-fired again. During this final firing process, the decals become part of the finish, so that they cannot be removed from the surface. Ceramic differs from Porcelain in that it is kiln fired at a somewhat lower temperature, thereby creating a slightly more porous product. The base color of ceramic is slightly off-white. All Ceramic Closeout Fan Pulls are 2" tall, 1 1/4" in diameter, barrel shaped, decorated on both sides and come complete with a 6" 18K Gold Plated chain assembly. EFFECTIVE January 1, 2004 we no longer produce our ceiling fan pulls from Ceramic. We have switched to Porcelain. All Ceramic items on this website are being Closed Out. Once these items are sold out, they will be unavailable as Ceramic merchandise. All Ceramic items currently in our catalog are also available as Porcelain. |
